Problem
A large logistics company was faced with the challenge of having to store device batteries outside of the device depots, while also ensuring that the batteries did not get too hot there. Standard 20-foot containers were set up as storage locations. The question now was how to ensure that a critical maximum value of the internal temperature was not exceeded.
Solution
Since air conditioning units were not to be running permanently in the containers, an alternative or additional heat protection solution was sought. The decision was made to coat the entire surface with ClimateCoating® IndustrySpecial, a heat protection coating specifically for metal surfaces, which massively reduces the heat input into the coated object due to its high reflection and emission values.
The assumption was that an air conditioning unit would also have to be installed to deal with critical temperature peaks. In order to keep the temperature under control at all times, the container was equipped with sensors that would sound an alarm if a defined limit was exceeded, thereby activating the air conditioning system.
Result
The heat protection effect in the test container exceeded expectations. Even on very hot days, no additional air conditioning was necessary and the temperature remained several degrees below the limit. The company now assumes that the climate coating on the storage containers at all locations will mean that it will be able to manage without air conditioning units at all.
