Problem

Not all owners can afford to renovate their facades to make them more energy efficient – economic aspects, a lack of financial resources or restrictions such as listed building status are possible obstacles. At the same time, the costs of simple maintenance continue to rise and tradespeople are scarce. This is compounded by the huge pressure to reduce energy consumption. So what can be done?

Solution

The housing association WGP Perleberg eG was already addressing the issue of sustainability at the turn of the millennium – high heating energy consumption in old and prefabricated concrete tower blocks, constant problems with algae infestation and far too short renovation intervals were a concern for the company. The solution was a climate-friendly coating from SICC Coatings, which, due to its special physical properties, keeps the facade looking beautiful for a long time while also reducing heating needs. After successful testing, all 30 existing buildings were coated by 2009 and the energy consumption was scientifically evaluated over several years.

Result

The results are impressive: 18-21% heating energy was saved annually, the algae problem has been solved to date and the master painter who carried out the work in 2022 said that he only sees the need for a facade renovation “in a good 15 years” – that would mean a service life of 30 The photo from June 2023 supports this assessment – a flawless facade that does not show its age.
